Jack Usine, whose real name is Tristan Etienne, is a freelance graphic designer who lives and works in Castillon-la-Bataille. A frenetic draughtsman and typography enthusiast, Jack Usine created SMeltery during his studies at the Bordeaux School of Fine Arts in 2002.
A former graffiti artist, Usine has a direct relationship with the city and its signs, which are both a source of inspiration and an object of study. With the vernacular as his fuel and words as his vehicle, he has made the alphabet his field of exploration.
